Thank you for joining us for the Green Snoqualmie Summer of Service! On Sunday 8/23/26, from 9 AM to 12 PM, join us for a habitat restoration at Flicker Creek, the creek behind Borden Park in Snoqualmie Ridge.

At the Green Snoqualmie Partnership, we love our forests. Do you love forests, too?! Snoqualmie Ridge was built with forests in mind; the city planners knew residents would love walking the trails, eating berries, and enjoying the cool shade in the hot summer months. Wildlife from spotted towhees to black bears call Snoqualmie's forests home, as do a diversity of beetles, bees, and butterflies.

With the construction of the Ridge, many forest edges were created, weakening the forest due to the "edge effect". Forests went from shady and moist to windy and sunny in a matter of months. These edges also provided a spot for invasive species to take hold. Weeds like English ivy, Armenian blackberry, and cutleaf blackberry began relentlessly spreading into Snoqualmie Ridge's forests. We can look to forests in Downtown Snoqualmie or Seattle for examples of what will happen if invasive species spread is not stopped quickly enough; blackberries form thickets blocking the growth of native trees, and ivy climbs up and pulls down trees. During the Green Snoqualmie Summer of Service, our aim is to eliminate the invasive blackberries and ivy from Flicker Creek to prevent an enormous future cost--losing the forest entirely.

So why is worth it for YOU to join restoration projects like this one? If you're a local, you can come back and see the forest you weeded and planted grow and mature for the next several decades. Your children/future generations can grow up in a city with healthy forests, knowing they were protected by people like you who care. You will get to learn more about the local ecology and the plants that grow in the wild here, and you will get to meet like-minded forest advocates. Also, we'll have pizza (for groups larger than five!) and snacks!

Tools, training, and water are provided. This is open to all ages and abilities. Feel free to stay as late as 1 PM, but the event officially ends at 11 AM!

What to Bring

Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, long pants, and long sleeves that can get dirty and will protect you from blackberry thorns. Avoid sandals!

Dress for the weather: sunscreen/sunglasses if it’s sunny, or rain gear if rain is in the forecast. We will be out there whether there's rain or shine!

A water bottle and snacks

Print and bring a signed Youth Waiver if you are under 18 and without a guardian.

A great attitude :)

Your favorite pair of gloves, if you wish. Tools and gloves are provided!

Where to Meet

Meet at the picnic table at Borden Park. If we have already started, sign in at the picnic table and walk down the trail to find us in the woods!
