Thank you for joining us for the Green Snoqualmie Summer of Service! On 8/16/26, from 9 AM-12 PM, join a group of community volunteers for an ecological restoration at the forest buffer surrounding Stillwater Bog!

Stillwater Bog is one of Green Snoqualmie's oldest restoration sites, and invasive blackberry is 95% eradicated from the forest buffer! We need YOU help us dig to get that number to 100% and set us up for a great fall planting event :)

What makes a bog a bog? Sphagnum, of course! What's sphagnum? A type of moss! Yes, sphagnum moss defines bog ecosystems. After a glacial-carved lake was carved out thousands of years ago, a species of sphagnum colonized the empty bowl. Sphagnum mosses are ecosystem engineers, turning the lake acidic. The low-oxygen and high-acidity conditions prevent organic matter from decaying, so dead plant matter (peat) builds up for hundreds of years! The bog is an important carbon sink. Furthermore, Stillwater Bog is exclusively fed by rain, much of which runs off from the surrounding forest. This means that it is super important to ensure the forest buffer is healthy, as a healthy forest will stop pollution before it enters the bog.

This is one of the best ways to give back to your local forest and your community. Meet like-minded forest advocates as you help us build a healthy habitat!

Pizza will be ordered for groups of five or more, and snacks, tools, and training will be provided. There are roles for all ages and skill levels! Show up as early as 8 AM and stay as late as 1 PM, but the event officially starts at 9.

What to Bring

Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, long pants, and long sleeves that can get dirty and will protect you from blackberry thorns. Avoid sandals!

Dress for the weather: sunscreen/sunglasses if it’s sunny, or rain gear if rain is in the forecast.

A water bottle and snacks

Print and bring a signed Youth Waiver if you are under 18 and without a guardian.

A great attitude :)

Your favorite pair of gloves, if you wish. Tools and gloves are provided!

Where to Meet

From the parking lot, walk to the right past the bathrooms and up the hill. Look for the Green Snoqualmie Partnership tool trailer along the path around the Stillwater Bog, north of Community Park.
