Thank you for joining us for the Green Snoqualmie Summer of Service! Mark your calendar to join Green Snoqualmie Partnership and your community for a fun volunteer event on Saturday, 8/1/26, from 9 AM-12 PM! We will be taking care of the forest around Borden Park on Snoqualmie Ridge, including Flicker Creek, by weeding out some invasive ivy, cutleaf blackberry, and Armenian blackberry that have been encroaching into the forest. We will also mulch native plants that have been planted within the last year!

Do you enjoy strolling through the woods, admiring the towering black cottonwoods and classic Douglas-firs our urban forests have to offer? Now, imagine what it might look like a hundred years from now. On one hand, a forest properly cared for by community members would be vibrant and diverse, with trees young and old, thimbleberries and salmonberries ripe for snacking, and wildflowers like Cooley's hedge-nettle and false lily-of-the-valley feeding critters and pollinators. On the other hand, a forgotten forest would be swallowed by invasive blackberry and ivy, losing its character and having its food web collapse due to these invasive plants, habitat fragmentation, and climate change.

Flicker Creek is largely ivy-free, but it can only stay that way with a community effort to keep it out. English ivy is an invasive plant introduced as an ornamental because of how well it spreads... it spreads a bit *too* well, and our forests can't keep up. Ivy tends to swallow up woodland wildflowers and prevent the regeneration of trees and shrubs. Unlike Seattle's forests, ivy here in Snoqualmie Ridge is far more manageable, so it's our duty to rein it in as much as possible. That's why on 8/1/2026, concerned community members like yourself will venture into the woods, equipped with hand tools, gloves, and long pants to fight for the forest, all while chatting it up and enjoying each other's company!

What to Bring

Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, long pants, and long sleeves that can get dirty and will protect you from blackberry thorns. Avoid sandals!

Dress for the weather: sunscreen/sunglasses if it’s sunny, or rain gear if rain is in the forecast.

A water bottle and snacks

Print and bring a signed Youth Waiver if you are under 18 and without a guardian.

A great attitude :)

Your favorite pair of gloves, if you wish. Tools and gloves are provided!

Where to Meet

Meet at the picnic table at Borden Park. If we have already started, look for the ivy tarp and the rustling in the woods.
