Northwest Slope - The Last of Ivy …07/25/2026

Activities

Thank you for joining us for Green Snoqualmie's Summer of Service! This event will be 9 AM-12 PM on Saturday, July 25th at Curtis Park/the Silent Creek Forest.

In the hit game and TV show The Last of Us, a Cordyceps-inspired fungus infects humanity, leaving the survivors to rebuild society and search for a cure despite the "infected" lurking in abandoned cities and towns. Similarly, an "infection" is stealthily spreading through Snoqualmie's forests, and you--yes, YOU!-- are the only cure! We in Snoqualmie are hunting down the last of the English ivy, an invasive plant that is infamous for climbing up and strangling trees, all the while growing hundreds of berries to be spread elsewhere in the forest. Not too different from the Cordyceps fungus, which, in real life, parasitizes its host (ants or beetles), forcing the host to get to a high spot and release spores to infect the rest of the colony.

This week, we will be working at the Silent Creek Forest. Green Snoqualmie Forest Stewards Alex and Janine have been leading ongoing restoration here since 2022. There are a few patches of invasive English ivy stealthily creeping through the woods, smothering native plants and preparing to take down trees. To protect the woods and prevent it from getting out-of-control, we need YOU to help us pull it all out! Wherever we pull out ivy, we will plant there in the fall when the rain starts again.

This event is family-friendly and open to all ages and abilities!
